Shanghai Livingston American School - 580 Ganxi Road, Shanghai, China                               Aug 2015-current

Visual Art Teacher/ Art Department Head – Teach art to primary, middle school and high school students.

  • Teach developmentally appropriate/differentiated instructed art classes to an international student population comprised of 95%english language learners.

  • Manage art department staff of 4 teachers as well as 3 teaching assistants. Mentor them on curriculum development, lesson     plan writing and differentiated teaching/learning techniques in the art room.

  • Design lessons in painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, fiber arts and mixed mediums that meet California Visual Art Standards.

Drawing Instructor – Designed and taught 2 week intensive observational drawing class programs.

  • Taught 4 classes a day to students ages 8 to 14 where explorations of different drawing mediums (pencil, graphite, charcoal, sumi ink, pen) led to the creation of observational drawings.

Summer Enrichment Teacher - Taught daily sculpture classes to rising public school 5th graders who faced learning challenges during the academic school year.

  • Curriculum allows for differentiated instruction to meet the needs for the varied learning styles in the classroom.

  • Supervised and mentored student teachers and interns.

 

El Puente Beacon Saturday Arts Program -MS 50, 180 S. 3rd Street, Brooklyn, NY                      Oct 2011-June 2013

Visual Art Facilitator - Taught art to students aged 7 to 14 at Saturday Enrichment program at MS 50.

  • Lessons were designed to utilize El Puente's leadership development approach which bridges social action with the performing and visual arts.

  • Produced two major student art shows per year and collaborated with performing art department on twice yearly stage productions.

Professional Development

MOMA Art and Inquiry Course: Museum Teaching Strategies for Your Classroom                        April 2014

Completed with honors. The course introduced ways to integrate works of art into the classroom by using inquiry-based teaching methods commonly used in museum settings.

 

Creative Classrooms- Attend monthly meetings with other visual art teachers where teaching strategies and the creation of art projects complementary to students’ literacy and core curriculum goals are often subjects.                                Feb 2012-current

 

Awards/Grants

Marquis Studios Teaching Arts Training Institute 2011 (TATI): Chosen to participate in a program funded by the NEA which trains arts educators to work with students in District 75 schools with special needs.
